There is so much to tell you. There a several guest announcements coming your way. You may already have noticed that Lalla Ward makes a rare U.S. convention appearance with us this November. We are also very pleased to welcome Barnaby Edwards to L.I. Who 5 this November. That means we will have two Barnaby Edwards at our event: one is our longtime presenter and president of DWNY, and now we add the man who helps bring the Daleks to life on the current series. Timey-Wimey indeed!
Many of our favorite authors and presenters are returning. David J. Howe, Sam Stone, John Peel, Andrew Beech (with highlights from his screen-used costume and prop collection), Tara Carstensen and her life-sized, screen accurate TARDIS (plus Shine her wonder dog), PixelWho, Cat Smith, and Joshua Lou Friedman. Also joining us this year is Doctor Who’s brand manager at the BBC Edward Russell. We are thrilled to have a wide range of speakers and panelists every year. There are more to be announced shortly, including a few surprises.
Beginning on June 1st we are switching our registration system to Constant Contact. We appreciate your patience during this transition. The registration team, lead by Natalie Jaran, put in countless hours of work to help you get your badge as fast as possible every year. A quick reminder that we don't mail out passes. If you've purchased your passes in advance, they can be picked up at the convention using photo I.D. or a printout of your confirmation email.
Our convention hours will continue to be Friday 12pm - 12am, Saturday 10am - 12am+, and Sunday 10am - 7pm. All of our guests appear all three days unless otherwise noted.
A reminder that the con hotel is sold out of guest rooms for our convention weekend. There is an overflow hotel almost across the street from the Hyatt Regency. It's Jake's 58, formerly the Marriott Islandia. We've arranged for a special L.I. Who rate for those wishing to stay overnight. Details can be found on our hotel page.
Although it's not an official part of the convention or required in any way, you might consider ordering some ribbons to hand out or trade this November. It's a great icebreaker for meeting new friends and fellow Whovians. There are several places online to order and many avenues on social media for advice and suggestions. It's a wonderful tradition that we are pleased to be a part of.
One last thing, a note of thanks. For the last few years we've held free meet-ups / classic Doctor Who viewings at Game Master Games in Hicksville. We recently learned that the store will be closing. We are grateful for the hospitality of the owners and staff over these fun-filled years. Our viewings will find a new home, most likely with our friends at the Copiague Library. If you're a local Doctor Who fan, please stop by when we resume this fall.
