Hello everyone. The Doctor Who world is transitioning from one Doctor to another and from one showrunner to another. It's an exciting time for all of us. 2017 has been a challenging year for conventions and the people who run them. There has been increased competition from professional events and an oversaturation of conventions in our area. It is difficult financially to maintain the standard of excellence we've come to expect from a world class event like ours. These are some of the factors that have influenced the decision of my partners and I to have Long Island's Doctor Who convention take a break.
There won't be an L.I. Who 6 in 2018. Although no plans have been made beyond 2018, we will be periodically re-evaluating our opportunities going forward. I know this comes as a disappointment to many of you. We are equally disappointed. It wasn't an easy decision to make. Over the past five years our fan community has come together with us to build something very special and I'm grateful. I'd also like to thank our staff. Over the years they have donated their time and hard work to make Doctor Who fans from around the world feel at home on Long Island.
Please continue to follow us on social media and check back from time to time for updates. The fan community on Long Island is still strong and we continue to meet monthly on the first Wednesday of every month at the Copiague Public Library for classic Doctor Who viewings and activities. The Long Island Tardis also continues to make appearances around our area. We hope to organize some smaller events when the opportunity presents itself. I've been active in the Doctor Who fan community for over 30 years and will continue to do so. I look forward to seeing all of you in 2018 at the many fan-run conventions around the country. They need your support to continue.
